Our History
DNC was established in 2009 by Aarhus University Hospital, Aarhus University, and the Central Denmark Region based on the unique brain research environment in Aarhus. The establishment of a center for PET and MRI scanning and the internationally oriented research from this became the starting point that led to the development of new brain imaging methods. The first research results contributed, among other things, to the now world-renowned treatment with MRI diagnostics and stroke treatment. When the hospitals in Aarhus were merged in 2019, DNC's research groups were dispersed across different locations in Aarhus, while the research infrastructure moved to Aarhus University Hospital along with the clinical activity.
The new building for the Danish Neuroscience Research Center will bring together neuroscience research in one building. As something entirely new and groundbreaking, neuroscientists from both psychiatry and the other neuro disciplines will work side by side. The center's work is a natural extension of the government's agreement on equality and integration of psychiatry and somatics, the Central Denmark Region's strategy for research in the health sector, as well as AU Health's and Aarhus University Hospital's joint strategy for clinical health sciences research.
