Where Research and Treatment Meet
Modern laboratories, examination rooms, and facilities located close to patients will ensure a strong link between basic research, clinical research, and treatment. When researchers work side by side, it becomes easier and faster to translate new knowledge into solutions that help patients with conditions such as dementia, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, ADHD, depression, and many other brain-related disorders.
The latest Danish health reform aims to integrate psychiatry and somatic healthcare. The Danish Neuroscience Center is already working to bring research together across psychiatric and somatic diseases and to build bridges between disciplines that have previously been separated.
A Shared Foundation in the Complexity of the Brain
The brain can be studied and described at many levels – from genes, molecules, and cells to complex functions such as memory, emotions, and behaviour. These functions arise through the interaction between the brain’s biology and the influences we are exposed to, for example through social interaction.
Breakthroughs will emerge at the intersection between laboratory and clinic, across a wide range of disciplines, and with patients and relatives as active partners. By creating new connections between people, research will gain new perspectives. The architecture of the new building will support these encounters, inspired by the brain’s infinitely many connections.
A New Landmark for Brain Research
With the new building, Aarhus and the Central Denmark Region will be positioned as an international hub for groundbreaking brain research and highly specialised treatment. The new DNC represents a strategic investment in the future of health, knowledge, and growth.
The center will attract leading researchers, healthcare professionals, and collaborators from around the world. At the same time, it will create new opportunities for education, industry, and innovation locally. This strengthens Aarhus as a university and knowledge city and further develops the Central Denmark Region as a strong player – also internationally.
Value for Citizens and Society
Citizens will gain faster access to new knowledge, improved treatments, and a stronger focus on prevention and quality of life. Society will benefit from long-term gains – both in terms of health and the economy.
The new DNC is an investment in the future of health, knowledge, and quality of life.
